Eurocom delivers new mobile “super server”

Engineering teams who need cloud technology in a portable, secure package are among the target market.

Eurocom has launched a new mobile server powerful enough to serve as a portable private cloud server. The Tornado F5 SE Mobile Server is powered by Intel Xeon E5 1200 V5 series CPUs, and comes with up to 64GB of DDR4 memory, up to 8 TB RAIDable storage and an integrated display, keyboard and UPS.

Eurocom says the Tornado F5 SE is one of the few laptops on the market with a C236 chipset, LGA 1151 CPU socket; Eurocom claims this allows the mobile server to support the following processors: Xeon E3-1240 v5, Xeon E3-1270 v5, Xeon E3-1280 v5.

The Tornado F5 SE Mobile Server is designed for fast deployment right out of the box. Eurocom says the ability to hand carry the system makes the Tornado F5 SE “an extremely easy system to relocate while providing server capabilities.”

What do we think?

From the specs, it looks like the Tornado F5 SE Mobile Server doesn’t replace conventional server systems. Instead it offers new opportunities for server deployment. A portable render server or an ad-hoc private engineering design cloud are among the possibilities.
