Adobe acquires Topaz Labs, maker of AI video and image enhancement models. Adobe will integrate the technology into its creative tools, but the Topaz Labs brand will remain, and its apps and models will continue to be available as stand-alone products.

Acquisition complete, as Topaz Labs and its Emmy Award-winning Ai video and image enhancement technology are now part of the Adobe creative ecosystem, giving film and video pros access to Topaz’s capabilities without them having to move back and forth between the toolsets. Topaz’s technology is available in Adobe Firefly and Photoshop at this time, helping users to upscale and enhance images and video while preserving the natural look and detail of the original imagery. Despite this integration, Topaz Labs will remain a stand-alone brand and its apps and models also still available as stand-alone offerings by Adobe.
The Topaz models preserve the integrity of original footage, assisting filmmakers in recovering detail, improving clarity, and maintaining temporal consistency. Its proprietary Neurostream technology lets professionals process complex AI models on their own devices or through Topaz Lab’s cloud-based option. In terms of archival and legacy content, it enables restoration of decades-old film and TV footage and through upscaling, enables it to be used on high-res and large-format screens.
Adobe says it will optimize the performance of Topaz Labs models through training on Adobe Stock content. It also will leverage strong enterprise relationships.
Adobe has been on a mission to integrate other vendors’ tools and capabilities into its own apps, through partnerships, agreements, or acquisitions, with the goal of uniting workflows so users do not have to switch between tools and disrupting their creative flow. This especially has been the case with leading AI models.
