Autodesk has released a version of AutoCAD WS that runs on the new Kindle Fire tablet. The Kindle Fire from Amazon.com runs a customized version of the Android operating system, requiring Autodesk to release a custom version for Kindle Fire even though it already ships an Android version. The Kindle Fire version of AutoCAD WS is available in the Amazon App Store.
AutoCAD WS is a basic drawing and editing tool based on AutoCAD with version for Apple and Android-based mobile devices, the Apple Mac desktop, and a web-based version. Users create an account online to store and share DWG documents, editing or viewing them with their local device running AutoCAD WS.
The operating system on Kindle Fire is a customized version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. Besides access to Amazon Appstore, the Kindle Fire includes a cloud-accelerated “split browser” called Amazon Silk which users Amazon EC2 for off-device cloud computation; including webpage layout and rendering.
