The popular Radeon RX Vega line from AMD is being further fleshed out with new boards from Gigabyte.
Gigabyte recently announced two new custom graphics boards based on AMD’s Radeon RX Vega series, the RX Vega 64 and RX Vega 56 Gaming OC graphics cards. These boards are aimed at both the gaming and enterprise markets, being capable of handling six different monitors simultaneously.
The cards feature a custom-made PCB attached to the motherboard via two 8-pin PCIe connectors, so prospective buyers need to ensure their motherboard has enough free slots to accommodate one of these beasts.
As the “OC” in the cards’ name suggests they are overclockable, with a 12+1 power phase design as well as an initial factory overclock giving the RX Vega 64 a base clock speed of 1276 MHz, and a boosted clock speed of 1560 MHz. A full 8 GB of 2048-bit High Bandwidth Memory (HBM2) also accompanies the cards.
While the two boards share a similar design in terms of layout and cooling, Gigabyte has yet to release official specs for the RX Vega 56, but these are expected to be roughly comparable to the RX Vega 64 Gambing OC.
The cards will ship with Gigabyte’s Windforce 2X cooling system (air cooled), sporting two 100 mm fans spinning in alternate directions. Further cooling is provided by a copper back plate and heat-pipes, as well as Gigabyte’s “angular fin design,” which the company claims can improve airflow by 23% over traditional fan designs.
Liquid cooled versions of the new “Gaming OC” cards have not been announced thus far, but the standard RX Vega 64 is available in a water cooled configuration from Gigabyte if that’s more your style. Nonetheless the company is placing a lot of emphasis on the air-cooled capabilities of the new cards being more than sufficient for heavy use.
As mentioned earlier, the cards are capable of supporting up to six displays at the same time, featuring three DisplayPort 1.4 as well as three HDMI 2.0b outputs. This helps turn the cards into appealing solutions for both enterprise clients and gaming enthusiasts.
No information on pricing or availability was available at the time of publication, but the cards should reach most Gigabyte resellers within the next month or so.
