SIGGRAPH Pioneers: Ed Kramer interviews Dr. Jon Peddie, CGI industry guru

SIGGRAPH is the Special Interest Group on Graphics, the world’s leading organization dedicated to research in Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques. Their parent organization is the ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery.

Ed Kramer currently serves as Chair of the SIGGRAPH Pioneers, an advisory group that meets for a reception each year at the SIGGRAPH conference. In addition to serving as mentors, each year they have the opportunity to network with fellow researchers and artists who have worked in the fields of computer graphics and interactive techniques for 20 years or more.

During this pandemic, Ed launched “SIGGRAPH Pioneer” series where he interviews artists or researchers from the Pioneers Group. This week, he interviews Dr. Jon Peddie, President of Jon Peddie Research. Dr. Peddie is one of the pioneers of the graphics industry and formed Jon Peddie Research (JPR) to provide customer intimate consulting and market forecasting services. Peddie lectures at numerous conferences on topics pertaining to graphics technology and the emerging trends in digital media technology. He is an advisor to the Siggraph Executive Committee, and in 2018 he was accepted as an ACM Distinguished Speaker.

Jon Peddie has been a guiding force in the CGI industry for decades. Ed speaks with Jon about his company, his personal history, his relationship with SIGGRAPH, his books, and his visions about the future of augmented reality and other imaging technologies.
