FutureMark, Galaxy and KFA2 are offering more than $16,000 in prizes.
High-score contests are nothing new in the world of computer gaming, but a contest for high score on a hardware test benchmark is a bit unusual. Futuremark, creator of PC benchmarks and performance test software is teaming up with PC graphics card vendors Galaxy Microsystems and KFA2 on a contest to post the highest overclocking score using the new 3DMark benchmark.
The contest, dubbed Galaxy Ice Storm, is reaching out to PC gaming overclockers worldwide to compete for more than $16,000 in prizes by submitting their highest scores on the new 3DMark Ice Storm, Cloud Gate and Fire Strike benchmark tests. The competition is open to all overclockers using Galaxy or KFA2 brand graphics cards. Entry details for Galaxy Ice Storm are on the competition website.
The contestants with the highest score in each category at the end of the contest will each win a limited edition 3DMark Fire Strike monster statue, faithfully created by 3D printing the original 3D model used in the Fire Strike test. Winners will also be awarded $3,000 plus a bonus of $2,000 if their score is a new official 3DMark world record at the close of the contest.
In addition to the three categories below, there will also be Lucky Draw winners, 12 entries selected at random from qualifying entries. The price for Lucky Draw winners is a new Galaxy GeForce GTX 650 Ti graphics card. One Lucky Draw winner will win one of the limited edition statues.
