The plug-ins are for developers; more than 100 vendors use Open Cascade technology.
Datakit has released two new plug-ins that allow import of 3DM (Rhino) files and DXF/DWG (AutoCAD) files into all applications based on the open-source Open Cascade 3D CAD technology.
Both plug-ins allow end users to transfer data from either Rhino or any program that writes DWG files to any Open Cascade product. As an open source technology, Open Cascade is used by many internally created programs for working with 3D CAD geometry, as well as more than 100 vendors of CAD-related technology. The most recent vendor to use Datakit technology is Onshape, the new cloud-based mechanical CAD software product in open beta.
A copy of either Rhino or AutoCAD (or other DWG authoring software) is not required.
Both plug-ins can:
- Provide a function to be called (C++) in an Open Cascade-based application;
- Get solid, surfacic, wireframe models, assemblies of them;
- Gain access to graphic attributes (colors, layers, visibility) and names of items.
The Rhino plug-in supports Rhino versions V1 through V5 and Open Cascade versions 6.2.0 to 6.9.0. The DWG/DXF plug-in is based on AutoCAD versions 2.5 through 2013 and OpenCascade versions 6.2.0 to 6.9.0.
