The state of computer graphics is such that often audiences are left wondering, Is it real or CGI? Mufasa: The Lion King is a live-action/VFX production, All of its characters and environments look realistic but are computer-generated. Mufasa is a prequel. It turns back the clock to tell the origin story of Mufasa—how he became an orphan, befriended a young Taka (who later adopted the moniker Scar), and was taken in by Taka’s family. The movie follows them on their great journey across the lands, as well as the one involving friendship, family, jealousy, and betrayal. MPC created the film’s photorealistic animals and environments, delivering 1,500 full-CG shots.
This is MPC’s second trip to the Pride Lands—the studio created the CG cast and environments for 2019’s The Lion King. That film set a high bar, one that MPC was determined to raise even higher in terms of VFX.
