Hyundai Heavy Industries expands use of AVEVA 3D marine design tools

The Korean shipbuilder just won a contract for what will be the world’s largest heavy-lift vessel.

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) announces it has agreed to a “ a significant new contract” with AVEVA for 3D marine construction design software. HHI recently received an order for what will be the world’s largest heavy-lift vessel.

HHI has been an AVEVA customer since 1988, and now operates the world’s largest shipyard. It has based its engineering and design on AVEVA solutions for the production of its commercial, offshore and special ships. With increasing offshore projects, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) is further expanding its usage of AVEVA’s 3D design.

”We have a strong working relationship with AVEVA, as demonstrated with our past strategic partnerships. AVEVA has helped us to continue to achieve technological innovation and become a global leader,” said H.Y Kim, General Manager at HHI.

HHI recently announced the launch of state-of-the-art drill ship ‘Deepwater Champion’ and a recent order for the world’s largest heavy-lift vessel. AVEVA solutions were used in the design of ‘Deepwater Champion’ and will play a major role in the new heavy-lift vessel project.

The Deepwater Champion, designed in AVEVA 3D software, is equipped with a thruster canister, a housing for the drill rig. The design increases ship efficiency because it is not necessary to drydock for repairs. Instead, the thruster can be lifted onto the ship through the canister.
