Adobe extends the wonders of Creative Cloud to the masses with a short term deal offering Photoshop CC to anyone for $9.99 a month. The deal includes Photoshop CC, Lightroom 5, 20 GB of storage, and a Behance pro website.
In September this year, in response to an outcry from photographers who depend on Photoshop but are not interested in Adobe’s full suite of products at the standard $50 per month, Adobe offered a special Photoshop CC option. Photoshop CC costs $10 per month and is restricted to users who own a copy of Photoshop CS3 or higher. As far as we can tell, the move has placated the most unhappy of Adobe’s base. Now, Adobe has is making a move calculated to expand their base.
The company says that until December 2, anyone can sign up for the $9.99 per month Creative Cloud deal for Photoshop CC, which includes Lightroom 5, 20 GB of server space, and a Behance Pro website.
What this means is that the people who take advantage of this offer can keep getting access to the Photoshop Creative Cloud and get updates and upgrades as they are available, just like any other qualified owner of Photoshop.
The deal requires a yearly commitment and is billed monthly. More information is available on Adobe’s website.
What do we think?
Photoshop is a powerful program that has intimidated casual users by reputation and by price tag. Adobe is eliminating one of those barriers to entry and we’re willing to bet that photographers who have taught themselves how to use other imaging programs will figure out Adobe’s interface. After all the rules are basically the same, and education resources are becoming freely available.
