It happens to the best of them. One day they are popular, and the next day they are not. In this case, we’re talking about the 3D modeling, animation, and rendering software Modo, which is getting the ax from its parent company, Foundry. Modo was a modern 3D tool when it was introduced by the newly formed Luxology in 2004. In no time at all, its popularity soared—until it didn’t. There are a number of reasons why it was brought low, but the end result is that Foundry just couldn’t sustain it any longer. This led to the announcement that it is discontinuing the once golden child that became a problematic stepchild.

Foundry is releasing Modo 17.1, which will be the last version.
