Open Design Alliance, which provides interoperability solutions for CAD and BIM, has made available a new Autodesk Navisworks export capability for its members. It is available in BimNv v 23.1 and later versions. Navisworks brings together files for AEC projects for visualization and interrogation. BimNv SDK works with Navisworks files from any application. ODA says that BimNv helps users get geometry data such as point sets, line sets, meshes, text objects, circles, cylinders, etc. A hierarchy tree of file contents also can be retrieved.
A free 60-day trial is available here. BimNv is available to Sustaining and higher ODA members. The licensing fees for Sustaining members is $5,000 per year; for Founding and Corporate members, the fee is $10,000 per year.
The company press release is as follows:
ODA Releases Navisworks Export
Export Navisworks files from any application on any platform.
Open Design Alliance (ODA), provider of complete interoperability solutions for CAD and BIM, announced the availability of export support for Autodesk Navisworks files from its BimNv SDK (Software Development Kit).
BimNv SDK is an independent, standalone solution for reading, visualizing and creating Autodesk Navisworks files.
“Our new export capability supports the creation of Navisworks files with no dependencies on the native Navisworks application,” said Neil Peterson, ODA President. “We offer C++ and .NET APIs, and our solution is available on Windows, Mac, and Linux.”
“Client applications can create Navisworks files from arbitrary 3D geometry, or from Autodesk Revit, IFC, DGN or DWG models. Models of different formats can also be combined prior to export, for example a Revit model and an IFC model can be combined into a single view, and then saved as a Navisworks file. It’s a convenient, powerful and flexible solution.”
Navisworks export from BimNv supports the following features:
- Full set of Navisworks geometry
- Model hierarchy
- Object properties
Availability and pricing
Navisworks export is available in BimNv version 23.1 and later. BimNv is an optional component available for purchase by Sustaining and higher level ODA members.
Pricing for ODA memberships and components can be found at opendesign.com/pricing.
