The Ryzen 9 9950X3D—Life in the fast lane

Ryzen 9

The Mt. Tiburon Testing Lab (MTTL) has been busy of late and just finished up a massive review of the new AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor. The 9950X3D uses 2nd Gen AMD 3D V-Cache technology, which results in higher clock speeds due to its improved thermal resistance. So, how does it perform against the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which carried the title of the world’s fastest gaming CPU? That’s what  we were determined to find out.

AMD set the bar high, claiming the 9950X3D to be the world’s fastest gaming processor for not only gamers but also content creators. That impressive designation yet again. Of course, we didn’t want to just take their word for it. Turns out, they were not exaggerating.

MTTL performed an intense battery of benchmarking tests—15 games through 19 benchmark scenarios. In addition, seven synthetic 3DMark benchmarks were run.  And, to evaluate its performance in content creation, the suite of SPEC benchmarks was included, as well as UL’s Procyon to test office productivity and AI image processing. There were other tests, too.

The review is thorough and contains a plethora of interesting information and results. And for those who want to find out even more about this new CPU, JPR’s sister site BabelTechReviews has its own in-depth analysis on the 9950X3D and the results of its match-up against the 9800X3D.
