TIBURON, CA (August 12, 2025) — Jon Peddie Research reports that the global client CPU market expanded for two quarters in a row, and in Q2’25, it showed unseasonal growth of 7.9% from last quarter, while server CPU shipments increased 22% year over year.
Q1 is typically flat to down, and Q2 is normally down, but both were up. We think it was a result of “buy ahead of the tariffs.”
The overall server CPU market increased by 0.6% quarter to quarter and by 22% year to year.
“We think the PC CPUs’ growth was accelerated by the coming tariffs, and to a much lesser extent, by AI PCs,” said Dr. Jon Peddie, president of Jon Peddie Research. “The client PC market has now had two consecutive quarters of growth, which is totally out of whack with traditional seasonality trends.”
