DE24/7’s Webcast on the effects of generative AI on design, featuring JPR’s Dr. Jon Peddie, is available for free viewing.
Recently, Dr. Jon Peddie, president of Jon Peddie Research, participated in a DE24/7 roundtable, along with Andrew Sartorelli from event sponsor Synera. The webcast, “The Role of Human Designers in the Age of Generative AI,” was moderated by Digital Engineering/DE24/7’s Kenneth Wong.

The topic of the webcast, said Wong, stems the large amount of integrated AI functions and natural language support in design and simulation tools, which changes the way we use what was once simple parametric design tools and simple finite element analysis and fluid dynamics analysis tools. In their discussion, the webcast group examines how those tools should be used and the effects they have on the role of human designers who usually make the critical decisions.
According to Peddie, AI adoption is unfolding much like the Internet did—but at a significantly faster pace, with far greater impact. It’s expected to advance five times as quickly and deliver outcomes three times as substantial.
Another key expectation is that companies with strong management and strategy will see productivity gains of 7% to 10% annually throughout this decade. This trend could substantially influence their profitability and ability to stand apart from competitors, he said. This is a moment that demands adaptability. AI is advancing rapidly—moving at five times the pace and delivering results with triple the effect, he added.
