Dental implant market soars, thanks to specialized CAD/CAM tools

The hot new market for CAD these days is teeth, apparently. According to iData Research (www.idataresearch.net), analysts specializing in medical devices, dental, and pharmaceutical market research, say market for dental implants will return to double-digit growth by 2013. The U.S. market for dental implants is expected to regain double digit growth.

The researchers say that the dental prosthetic market will reach over 82 million prosthetic placements by 2016 and the dental bone-graft substitute (BGS) market will double in value. What’s driving this growth, says iData, is the adoption of new technologies including CAD design and manufacture.

The leaders in this market are Sirona, Dentsply, and Nobel Biocare.

According to a study by E. Dianne Rekow, Sirona Dental Systems GmbH, of Bensheim, Germany had sold systems to more than 17,000 dentists in the U.S. by 2006.
