The new product is positioned as a side tool for creating 3D video effects, not as replacement for general-purpose video production software.
Corel today released Corel MotionStudio 3D, as an addition to its existing digital media product line. Aimed as home and occasional business users, MotionStudio 3D offers a wide variety of title effects, motion graphics and 3D animation. Corel ways MotionStudio 3D is optimized for the latest GPU and CPU chipsets, allowing users to “apply effects and view their changes in real-time.”
The user interface will be familiar to users of other Corel digital media products. There is a “Easy Pallet” which offers quick access to 3D pre-sets for text, graphics, or Web-based projects.
MotionStudio 3D could be used as a stand-alone video editor, but Corel is positioning it as a 3D toolkit for use with existing video software—including their own VideoStudio Pro X4—when the 3D effects are complete.
MotionStudio 3D can also serve as an authoring tool for 3D objects for print, web or as part of an Adobe Flash application. The software supports a variety of vector and raster formats; users can also import custom designs and convert them into 3D objects.
Other key features of MotionStudio 3D:
3D titling and text animation:Automatically extrude everyday 2D text to 3D and create instant 3D titles; Apply sophisticated effects to text including bounce, stretch, disintegrate, rotate and more.
Particle effects: Previously considered “high-end effects” in 3D video, MotionStudio 3D includes fire, snow, smoke, starfields, explosions and other 3D particle effect phenomena.
High-speed preview: Assemble and playback in high resolution or in anaglyph or side-by-side 3D—in real time—in the Preview Panel.
Import vector and raster graphics: MotionStudio 3D supports both vector and raster formats, including Adobe Illustrator (AI), Windows Meta Files (WMF), and Enhanced Metafiles (EMF).
Export options: Export as a 3D model with support for DirectX and 3D Studio; Output animated projects with audio directly to Corel VideoStudio Pro X4, or as AVI, 3GPP, MOV, MPEG, MP4 and WMV for use in other video editing products. Still images can be exported in JPEG, BMP, GIF, and TGA. Plus, export projects in GIF or Flash (SWF) formats for use on the web.
Create alpha channels: Generate an alpha channel when exporting to 32-bit AVI files or a transparent background when exporting to Flash SWF. Exporting with an alpha channel allows precise overlay of particle systems like fire and smoke within a video.
Output to 3D: Create 3D video for anaglyph or side-by-side viewing systems.
