New Xeon for Workstations pours into the desktop workstation market

Intel has officially launched the Xeon 600 series, a professional processor family designed to re-establish the company’s footing in the high-performance workstation market. This release, code-named Granite Rapids WS, follows an 18-month cadence that the industry has come to expect for premium hardware. Starting with the Xeon W 2400 and 3400 series in February 2023, followed by the Sapphire Rapids Refresh in August 2024, Intel is now hitting its stride with the February 2026 debut of the Xeon 600. And yeah, no W—more on that later.

The delivery of a predictable roadmap needs to be a point of pride for Intel. The original Sapphire Rapids platform suffered from a delay of approximately three years, which opened a massive door for AMD. During that window, the Threadripper family positioned itself as a viable alternative.
