Adobe has expanded its Photoshop ecosystem and has made the application available to use on the go, ideal for existing users and particularly attractive for a new generation of Photoshop users who prefer creating on a smartphone rather than on a desktop. Photoshop Mobile comes in a free and paid premium version. It is available on iPhones only at this time, although an Android version will be released later in the year.
There’s a new generation of creators who prefer creating on their mobile device, specifically their always-present smartphone, rather than on a desktop. For this new, younger audience as well as like-minded experienced creatives, Adobe has introduced Photoshop Mobile. This major expansion of Photoshop extends the popular image editing and design application to mobile for iPhones only at this time; support for Android phones will roll out later this year.

Designed from the ground up for a new generation of design and image enthusiasts, the mobile app contains an easy-to-use new interface and makes available core Photoshop imaging and design features and tools, including layering and masking, as well as Firefly-powered features like Generative Fill. Those capabilities are available in both versions of the app (free and premium).
According to Adobe, the mobile app eliminates pro-level users having to jump through multiple third-party applications when creating. While there are Photoshop-branded apps available in the marketplace, they are not truly Photoshop, but rather simplified versions of the application. Conversely, Photoshop Mobile is a true Photoshop application.
Adobe points out that Photoshop Mobile is geared to next-gen pro users, many of whom may not be familiar with the desktop version of the application, although its intuitive interface makes it easy to use and easy to transition to Photoshop on the Web. This group of users, Adobe says, is willing to invest the time in learning the ins and outs of Photoshop; therefore, it contains more robust features than Adobe Express, for instance. Also, the mobile app provides an expanded ecosystem for experienced and established Photoshop users. The app is compatible with other Photoshop apps across surfaces including desktop, Web, and iPad, enabling those Photoshop users to start personal projects and then make lightweight edits on the go.
Whether using the free or premium version, Photoshop Mobile offers the following capabilities:
- Combine and blend images using core Photoshop tools like selections, layers, and masks.
- Use the Tap Selecttool to remove, recolor, or replace parts of an image.
- Remove distractions with the Spot Healing Brush.
- Leverage powerful generative AI tools powered by Adobe Firefly, including Generative FillandGenerative Expandto add elements to designs and edit photos.
- Navigate workflows with seamless integrations with creative apps including Adobe Express, Adobe Fresco, and Adobe Lightroom.
- Add, replace, and create with a vast library of hundreds of thousands of free Adobe Stock assets.
Adobe has also expanded the Adobe Photoshop Web experience, included in all Photoshop plans, with enhanced flexibility for creators and enabling project management across devices with seamless mobile and Web integration. With Adobe’s new Photoshop Mobile and Web plan, users get more advanced image editing and design capabilities for mobile and Web creators. This includes tools for precise selections, targeted adjustments, advanced color corrections, expanded access to commercially safe AI with Firefly-powered generative AI tools, full format support for opening and editing any Photoshop document, and more. With seamless integration between the mobile and Web experiences, the new offering enables users to work on the same project across devices.
Updates to Photoshop on the Web include enhancements to the user interface to seamlessly transition between Web and mobile, direct integration with the Adobe Stock library of free assets, and expanded availability across browsers including Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.
The introduction of Photoshop’s new mobile app marks the first time image editing and design features and capabilities at this level of power, precision, and control have been available for free in a single mobile app, Adobe points out.
The free Photoshop mobile app offers premium upgrades through a new Photoshop Mobile and Web plan at $7.99 per month ($69.99 annually), which includes additional features on mobile and iPad, along with access to Photoshop on the Web.
