Powder, AI software named after the company that develops the tool, launched in 2020. It is now a free Windows app, with a Pro paid version available as well. The AI-driven software enables gamers to easily and automatically record and transform lengthy gameplay streams into compelling highlight clips, which can then be shared. Through a recent partnership with AMD, Powder’s Pro version has been optimized for AMD next-gen XDNA NPUs, making the overall process faster and more robust.
Gamers love to be in the thick of the virtual action unfolding on their screen—a real adrenaline rush. They also love to talk about their gameplay accomplishments, but even better, they love to show off their killer moves. Dedicated gamers often capture and share game footage online through Twitch, YouTube, Kick, etc. There are a number of tools and procedures for generating a VOD or clip of gameplay footage, but the process can be cumbersome and time-consuming as players try to find their best gameplay moments from a lengthy stream. Powder, an app released in 2020, uses AI technology to streamline and automate the process.
Now, the company is offering the original Powder for free, in addition to a new Powder Pro paid version with added features and functionality. And, as a result of a key alliance, the Pro software is able to take advantage of neural processing units, giving it even more power and kick.

Through a partnership with AMD, Powder Pro is optimized for cutting-edge hardware, including AMD XDNA NPUs, Radeon graphics, and RDNA architecture, and soon will be able to run on all Ryzen AMD AI NPUs. Meanwhile, the original Powder is still available and is now free.
Also, through an alliance with HP, Powder comes preloaded on Omen and Victus gaming laptops, delivering real-time AI-powered clips and video editing at the edge, powered by NPUs—and without impacting gaming performance.
Powder uses AI to capture gameplay quickly and easily. Gamers don’t have to spend lots of time sifting through long gameplay recordings, as the software automatically locates the most relevant highlights. The recordings can be made from imported streams or with the software’s own screen recorder. According to the company, it has trained more than 35 AI models, which are fine-tuned to capture the nuances of popular games and recognize key moments, ranging from team strategy to strategic maneuvers. Powder then transforms lengthy streams into shareable clips, which can be edited and leveled-up into eye-catching videos. In addition to editing tools, Powder has clip organization, subtitle creation, keyword searching, and more.
But with NPU support, Powder becomes supercharged, offering far better speed, efficiency, and visual quality. With a boost from NPU support in Powder Pro, the gameplay highlight detection process occurs seamlessly without interrupting game performance and occurs in real time, eliminating long processing wait times. Users can get instant montages—as much as 94% faster, the company says.
Powder Pro offers the following capabilities:
- Webcam support for adding webcam footage directly into game highlights
- Real-time Facemasks that react and adapt to the player’s expressions in real time
- Built-in greenscreen effects
- Emotion-reactive filters that react to the player’s reactions
- Quick edits of automontages for easy adjustments
- Cloud storage for easy content management
With NPU-powered devices, users of Powder Pro will also get these added features:
- Live bookmarking of key moments during live play
- Polished automontages created on the fly
Geared to all types of gamers and content creators, the free AI toolkit features unlimited gameplay recording, AI montages, video analysis, and clip export, but limits recording and export at a maximum of 1080p. For those who want to push the results even further, the Powder Pro plan (at $9.99 per month) includes all the features of the free version along with higher-level features such as recording and export up to 4K/120 fps, outro-free exports, and priority support.
Powder automatically generates highlights for more than 30 of the most popular games, including Fortnite, Valorant, Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, Rocket League, Call of Duty, and more. For games not listed in the available drop-down menu, users can generate clips with Powder’s Universal Game Support option.
The Powder AI app is for Windows PCs only and runs on-device.
