Maxon and Nvidia sign technical collaboration deal

The agreement facilitates scalable, intuitive, physically based rendering for 3D artists and designers.

3D modeling and rendering software specialist Maxon and graphics hardware leader Nvidia have begun a multi-year technical collaboration that gives Maxon access to Nvidia rendering technology, including its Quasi-Monte Carlo (QMC) sampling patent family, Iray ray tracing technology, and Material Definition Language.

Cinema 4D is used by a wide variety of visualization specialists, for digital content creation (animation, game scene development, etc.) and for product and architectural visualization. Under the terms of the agreement, users of Maxon’s Cinema 4D can now use Iray for Cinema 4D, a physically based rendering plug-in useful for highly accurate previews for lighting, scene design, and adjusting scene geometry and materials.

Iray for Cinema 4D provides live rendering, offering immediate visual feedback while lighting and designing a scene. Artists can continue to use the physically plausible material options of the Cinema 4D material nodes and shaders, and add their own material designs and procedural functions using Nvidia Material Definition Language. The full Nvidia vMaterials library is supported, as well as material exchange capabilities with other MDL-compatible applications.
