3D View Station update improves large model performance

The new model tree can select 5,000 parts of a specific color in a 100,000 parts assembly in less than 1 second.

Digital mock-up vendor Kisters has released an update to 3DViewStation extending the software’s ability to work with extremely large assemblies.

3DViewStation offers high performance 3D viewing, advanced analysis and Digital MockUp (DMU) for the full range of manufacturing CAD formats, including Catia, NX, Creo, SolidWorks, JT, 3D PDF, and STEP.

3DViewStation V2015.1 has a new model tree, which Kisters says is designed to accelerate selections in extremely large assemblies. For example, selecting 5000 parts of a specific color in a 100.000+ parts assembly, Kisters says filtering was cut down to fractions of a second. Performance and memory usage was optimized by migration of the graphics kernel to DirectX 11. KIsters says this move will also ensure better support of virtual systems.

Other new features in this update:

  • A wall thickness analysis displaying color gradation based on the ray method has been added.
  • The calculation of volume and surface will no longer be performed during loading, but is accessible via a menu item.
  • The presentation of results from the clash detection has been improved.
  • The SVG 2D-vector export of hidden-line removed data has been enhanced.
  • A minimum bounding box has been added.
  • PDF Export has been enriched.
  • ISO-like dimensioning has been enhanced.
  • A new XML-based API has been added, available for all products: Desktop, ActiveX, and WebViewer.

All versions of 3DViewStation are intended to be used together with a PLM, ERP or other management system. For cloud, portal, and web solutions there is a HTML5-based WebViewer solution available; which does not require any client installation at all. “All file formats can be used in combination with the intelligent navigation and hyperlinking features to address needs of complex integration scenarios,” notes Kisters in its announcement.
