Dassault Systèmes buys fatigue simulation technology

Acquisition of Safe Technology Ltd. will add to Simulia simulation portfolio.

Dassault Systèmes today acquired Safe Technology Ltd., a Sheffield, UK, provider of fatigue simulation technology for predicting product durability. Safe has more than 500 customers, including General Motors, Caterpillar Inc., Cummins Inc., Emerson Climate Technologies, Honda Jets, Harley Davidson Motor Company and Hyundai Motors. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.

Dassault and Safe have been technology and sales partners for 15 years, as Simulia was one of the target simulations platforms Safe supported. Safe Technology founder and CEO Dr. John Draper says Dassault “is committed to keeping Fe-Safe at the forefront of fatigue technology” and will continue to deliver the software as an open solution that supports all leading FEA solvers.

In 2010 Safe developed fe-safe/Composites in cooperation with Firehole Technologies of Wyoming, acquired last year by Autodesk. There is no word today on the future of that product or the relationship going forward now that both Firehole and Safe are part of larger, competing companies.

Dassault Systèmes closed the acquisition in an all-cash deal transaction on August 7, 2013, but did not report it until today.
